Tall Hungry Girl (or Boy—I haven’t forgotten about the men) is not just a playful slogan, but also a way of living. It means to stay hungry for life and actively and tenaciously pursue new experiences through travel, food, and healthy living.

The Best Dang Cheesy Hors D'oeuvres

They look a little messy, but taste delicious! These really are the best dang cheesy hors d’oeuvres ever! They’re actually a 40-year-old (at minimum) family recipe. My friends ask me to make them any time I host a party, and they’re usually gone within 15 minutes of me putting them out. If you want less of this recipe, you can cut the ingredients in half and get equal amount of goodness!


  • Rye cocktail bread (or regular rye bread cut into quarters)

  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese (you can buy two-8 ounce packages of shredded cheese)

  • 2/3 cup of mayonnaise

  • 13-16 green or black olives, finely chopped (I prefer green)

  • 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped

  • 1 teaspoon of ground mustard powder

  • 1 teaspoon of worcestershire sauce


  1. Pre-heat oven to broil.

  2. Mix ingredients together and take a heaping spoonful and place mixture on bread, and then on cookie sheet.

  3. Cook for approximately 5-6 minutes - until cheese bubbles.

  4. Remove from pan, let cool for a few minutes, and enjoy!
